Danish shipping group Maersk has stated that it was increasing its emergency fuel surcharge (EFS) on inland transportation in the UK and Ireland due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Maersk said in a statement it was increasing its EFS to 20% as of October 12th, and that it would continue to review the surcharge regularly. Maersk's previous UK inland fuel surcharge was 10.6%, effective from 1 October 2026.

The increase as of 12th October is therefore:

  • Previous surcharge: 10.6%
  • New surcharge: 20%
  • Increase: 9.4%
  • Relative increase is 88.7%

In other words, Maersk is almost doubling its UK inland fuel surcharge in less than two weeks.
